Bops + Operation Christmas Child

Posted December 5, 2014

Hey there, it’s been a while!  Welcome back to our blog.  Do you ever feel like the year just gets away from you?  It’s March, and all of a sudden you look up and it’s December.  Well, that pretty much explains my exact feeling.  Forget carving pumpkins, or eating turkey and dressing…  It’s time to tackle that overwhelming list of gifts to purchase (or make, if you have time for all that), parties and plays to attend, and halls that have yet to be decked out in your favorite Christmas decorations.  Did I just send you into cardiac arrest? Take a deep breath, and we will get through this together.

In all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I knew I wanted to take a day to give back to those less fortunate.  Lucky for me, I work for a company that LOVES to give back.  (Hence, Live. Give)  Throughout the year Bops gives jewelry and other objects to Operation Christmas Child headed up by Immanuel Baptist Church in El Dorado, Arkansas.  This year we were honored to drive up for a day of stuffing shoe boxes, and learning more about this amazing organization!

In my mind, I would be in a room stuffing shoe boxes with 2-3 other folks…  When we arrived, my mouth nearly hit the floor.  This is a big deal!  Hundreds of volunteers work together like clockwork to fill over 90,000 (yes, that’s NINETY THOUSAND) shoe boxes with goods for kids less fortunate.  Not only are there hundreds of volunteers there putting the boxes together, but throughout the year local schools gather items.  One of my favorite items we put in the boxes were some little dolls that local nursing homes had made.  I am still in total amazement at how organized it was.  Major props to those in charge!
It really was such an honor to be part of something so much bigger than ourselves (or our to-do list)!  I really encourage you to give back this year.  You will be glad you did!
Until next time,
Taylor
